That was to allow clearance for the fender wire stays. Also, I used 1/4" spacers for the bottom rack mounts. I used a 1/2" spacer for the rear fender seat stay bracket. I am now mounting the Top Peak Super Tourist DX rack that I got. I'll probably have to mount small L brackets at those eyelets, but that should be fairly easy. And the forks have threaded eyelets that should work for the mounting the fender stays. The brace has a threaded hole for the fender front bracket. I haven't done the front fender yet, but it looks like it should work. As far as the seat stay mount, I found I needed to add a 1/4" spacer to bring out the plastic bracket a little to clear the seat stays. Then using a half round file, I filed curved indentations on the fender edge. As for the seat stay, I did a prelim install and marked where the seat stays hit the fender. This is just strictly about the bike, and how all the components work together as a whole. It fits the wheel very nicely with lots of room to spare. This is a 500 mile review of the 1st generation Currie E3 Dash ignoring any mechanical issues I have had in the past. I've got the rear fender done and it looks fantastic.
